The Challenge: SAP EHS Stand Alone System on S/4 HANA

The main task was to implement a central EHS in a system landscape in which both the maintenance effort for EH&S data is minimized and the different logistic systems (both S/4 HANA and ECC6.0) are supplied with consistent data. The relevant EH&S data for dangerous good management, global label management and marketability checks should be automatically distributed from the central EHS system. A very special challenge was to realize the complete distribution of the specification database.

The Solution

A new central SAP EH&S stand alone system was set up in S/4 HANA. All Lanxess specification data was migrated using standard interfaces. The target systems were connected via ALE/IDoc. The generation and distribution of safety data sheets to customers was implemented in the central system.

Dangerous good management, substance volume tracking, marketability and global label management were implemented in the several logistic systems. A transformation layer allows flexible distribution of data to the different logistic systems.

The Lanxess specification database is completely distributed. For the ALE distribution of specification data and phrases, jobs are periodically executed, which can be carried out manually via a transaction if necessary. A lot of emphasis was placed on a SAP standard-based solution for implementing the ALE distribution of specifications and phrases. The ALE change pointers are used as automatic selection for regular distribution. Only data that was changed between the last distribution and the current distribution are determined and distributed. SI PRO GmbH implemented standard business application programming interfaces in order to realize the LANXESS-specific adjustments and mappings for the individual logistic systems.
